Where's the link? I can't see it ':)

What I've done in the past with other projects is either Discord (With very clear channels for each area, plus it has the option of having multiple admins and hide channels in case the server is public) or Google (Because of Drive, Chat, Meet, Calendar, etc.) They both have ups and downs. I'd say that the biggest pro for Discord is how fast you can communicate and all the control you can have, on the other hand it can get messy if you don't plan things in advance. As for Google, you have the pro of having everything connected and available for everyone, planning things and you have a lot of tools but on the down side, Chat can be a bit broken at times or there's the chance of running out of space in Drive.
Those are the two options I can think of right now that are easy.

So don't worry and just take some time to actually take the path you prefer the most. That doesn't mean that you can't enjoy the other stuff though. Basically don't push yourself.

As for the music, I'll "mix" tracks 1 and 2 to make the main theme and hopefully come up with that one musical idea I was talking about. And think of something for the chase theme, we can use the old one as a place holder for now.

It should be relatively quick but in case I take longer than expected is because of college, I REALLY want to finish my final project to finally be out lol

Track 1 can be easily expanded, both with what´s already there plus some ideas from Track 2. On the other hand I'd love to have THAT one musical idea that screams the name of the game, if that makes sense. I'm just kinda stuck with that.

Tbh I kinda hate Track 3, the idea of tension is there yet feels so out of place.

About college, if it helps, I was going to study biology and genetics but 4 months before starting the career I switched to Music composition lol. So it sounds like a cliché but.. you just kinda feel it

Only two tips i can give from college are 1. Study some topics outside college hours because teachers can be pretty awful at explaining sometimes. 2. You might enter college thinking you have a clear idea of what you want to do once you finish but be prepared because that idea might change at any point in time, be open to change and adapt.

About the music, I'm not really sure tbh, Track 1 was originally the main theme but I'm not convinced, I feel it has good things but something tells me it's not enough.
All versions of track 3 were made as a chase theme but I think they work more like an atmosphere for the actual theme.

Track 2 has good ideas, specially the little melodies that complement each other and was though for main theme also but in my opinion is too bland.

Those 3 tracks feel very disconnected in my opinion, maybe they could work in different situations after some polish but what I'm missing in general for the tracks and the whole OST is that one melody that is recognizable and that really represent the game, if you know what I mean

Thanks! You have any thought on the rest? All the feedback would really help

Hi! I'm not dead! I just posted something, sorry for not being present lately, I explain more in the post but yeah, also sorry if I've missed updates but I've been super busy

Hello again!

I'm not dead, I've been working on stuff, both here and college, so a bit important ':)

It's been kinda weird because I've come with stuff but I'm not sure if it works for what was needed (Maybe??) . I haven't found THAT one motif that ties everything together so this is more like a "Please check stuff and give feedback" than an actual finished product.

The tracks are in different types of finished, some are more polished, some are more "pure bones"  so have that in mind.

Anyway, enough talk and here are the things along side the older stuff: OST

All your feedback would be really appreciated!

I apologize for not being present lately, college's been so time consuming. But I'll try to balance things better.

Got it! I'm sure version 2023 is better. The only time I directly worked with Unity was with 2020 version but I suppose 2023 version is probably both stable and with better features.

Good luck in the Game Jam, I've been working on the music but also I've been really busy with college but probably in a few days I'll upload some stuff :)

The newer version of unity won't be a problem? This is a legitimate question, with all of the things that happened about pricing and stuff

This was really fun! As simple as it is, it manages to create tension if you mess up. Playing this as a musician, I really felt the stress the first time I played the wrong thing. Only feedback would be to maybe make more intuitive the sharps, maybe instead of "R" being the note C and "L" being C#, make it so "T" or "5" are C#. But overall it was a great short game!

I like the characters! (Big fan of Marvin and the fact that it works a lot like Mr. X)
I think I need to see how the characters fit in the story to understand the mechanics of when they are replaced but I like what you have.

Also thanks for letting me know what music you want right now

I read in the 3D modeling post that you asked for some instruments so I was thinking of a guy just either playing one of them or writing something there. In indie teams usually there's an "in-house" composer/audio guy so maybe that for the lesser important character?

Yep, but I´d like to explore more videogame music as well, this would be the second time I work in a game and it´s really different from movies and timed scenes

Yeah, I´m into that, sounds fun

Maybe, and this is just an idea, we can have like a background us? Let me explain. We could totally voice a character that it´s important to the narrative but maybe we could also have like, you know, a random programmer that just happens to be voiced by you as a little easter egg, same for the rest of us in our respective roles. I think that can be funny but yeah as of a more important character I guess we can think about it later on

I´ve worked as music/audio/SFX guy in short movies since I was 14 so almost a decade now. So thanks to that I´ve made friends with some of the directors of those projects and sometimes I just pop up in the background and stuff.

I´ll take this in consideration, it´s really useful! I´ve been having  a hard time with the new music because I didn´t have any clear thing about the plot ´:) but this helps a lot

It´d be cool to voice a character, maybe just as an extra because I have zero training in that front (I´ve only been an extra in live action productions).
And yes, Word is good for me.

As for how to spread the word, I guess apart from communities in Reddit, maybe in other socials (both "official" and personal) and things like that?

Also happy new year!

Merry Christmas to you too! Thanks for the update and don't worry, it's the holidays so don't push yourself :)

Looking good indeed!

That's okay! I will check it out and see if something there can be used or adapted for the new context. It doesn't really have to "fit" with the game, it's more to try to find what elements can be useful.

Thanks! I haven't heard The Sea of Thieves OST but of course I know the RDR2 soundtrack, it's one of the best crafted OST of the last decade. I'll study both and see if there's something that can work as inspiration :)

Because we´re all changing things a bit I wanted to do the same.

This time I would like to know not only what themes we need but also what games you like, what OSTs you like or even what you have in mind for the game music wise. If that makes sense. The more opinions and suggestions the better so I have more material to study and make something original with all of that

Yep, a demo with just a few things might actually be what we need the most for now.

100% yes lol

Maybe 4 nights for chapter 1, not too much work and a good way to see feedback on the game by other people. Extra characters seems good we just have to think the actual roles.
I'm not sure how much the story has changed so layout and themes are kinda hard to know. Rating... hmmm... maybe test the 13+ with possibility of more mature in other chapters? specially being psychological horror (Maybe that's just me as a big fan of horror stuff)

Also the mini games are a good idea if they feel organic in the plot/place.

Maybe we can have some reference images or something like that to help us with the atmosphere and feel?

So yeah, maybe that can give some ideas for the plot and gameplay

Yes, that´s why I really like the concept of survival horror, limited resources and limiting or straight up ignoring combat and that mixed with the investigation aspect can be a good thing

So I've been playing a lot of Survival Horror (specially Fatal Frame, Rule of Rose and Outlast 2) lately and I personally think that making the protagonist vulnerable and defenseless can be good if that's a type of horror we want to achieve, plus it goes well with investigation like you were suggesting. So investigation and a touch of stealth and maybe psychological horror? That's just some ideas but using some of the things we already have, you know?

Probably for the best imo, so it fits again.

Things like having a save theme, chase theme, etc can probably stay and you can use the current ones as placeholders for the time being

So, with the new story on the works, does the music have to change?

Sounds good to me! Can't wait to see what you end up writing

Nope, because the project is in a version of Unity that won´t suffer from that plan (only the newest version that will launch in 2024 as well as future versions will be affected by the new policies as far as I know)

(1 edit)

Oof, yeah I understand that, it´s a pretty hard game, the worst thing is that there´s no tutorial!

Also hi! nice to see you´re still here as well :)

Nothing, that was one of the main problems, it would mean the end of small developers who can´t afford to pay such a big amount of money in case a free game blows up. Every install would count (it will in the new version of Unity) and by every install they really mean it, no real protection against piracy and I think they were trying to see what would happen in case someone installed the game multiple times out of malice. There´s a lot of interesting and messed up details about that plan

I studied composition of popular music, composition of music for multimedia and music theory. And right now I'm making a thesis on adaptive music, exploring all the types of adaptive music, it's history and how can it be used.

So for it I'm not only writing about it but I'm also making a technical demo of a game to show examples that help me during that work, if that makes sense

Hello everyone! just letting you know two quick things:

1. I've been really busy with some IRL stuff (final project to graduate collage and it's also related to games so yeah, pretty time consuming) so I've been working on the project but really slowly (even if it's just a piece for now)

2. Probably tomorrow or Friday I'll have the track ready and then I guess I just have to wait till more music is needed. I'm not really sure what could be needed at this point in the development from my part though, so I'm open to any ideas or to just wait for ya'll to have more stuff

Just a little update from my part so you see I'm still alive lol

Hi! yeah I saw the stupid change in the pricing, Unity's former CEO is literally the worst.

Good thing it doesn't affect the project though!
About pricing of the game, I think the donation plan plus releasing the game by chapters is really the way to go. And of course splitting the possible gains.

Innocent... you mean more like a gentle simple thing or more like playful or wholesome?
